Are you currently in training for the Fleet Half or the London Marathon in 2012?
To assist with recovery from your runs, a sports massage on your legs and anywhere else that seems to be taking some strain, should be incorporated into your training regimen. As you step up your mileage, your body begins to take the strain and shows itself in many ways - not just the legs. As you train for a big event, you could be thinking about 3 different types of massage: maintenance, pre and post massage.

Maintenance
This type of treatment is best received between events to "maintain" the body between runs/races. This sorts out any niggles and/or injuries that you may be experiencing and in fact, the therapist should be able to find potentially problematic areas BEFORE you even know that they are there! This type of massage is VERY deep and sorts things out.
Pre-event Massage
This type of massage is received before an event (either the day before or on the day itself). It's used specifically to warm up muscles and prepare them for action. It's a much faster and superficial massage than the maintenance massage. Some people prefer to come in for pre-race massage a few days before the event also.
Post-event Massage
Again this type of treatment describes itself - it's used AFTER an event. This can be immediately after (after your own cool down) or the next day. Again it's a lighter massage than maintenance and is used to flush through the muscles after their exertion, to help the body drain the waste products from usage.
